If ever there was a maligned breed it is the American Staffordshire Terrier, most issues with the dogs are wholly a result of irresponsible owners and training. Unfortunately, these dogs are popular with bad dog owners, who have no idea how to manage this breed and just want a "tough" dog to compensate in some way for their lack of tough, as if the Hatebreed CDs weren't enough. It's not their fault, it's just the way they are. Sure the majority are nice, but even the nicest pit, if provoked, will bite and once those jaws clamp down it is nearly impossible to get them off their target. As far as temperment, I think Chows are probably worse, but neither Chows or Pits should be family pets, in my opinion. [show less]

We've raised these dogs for the last 24 yrs. All buyers are checked. If we even "think" they're going to beused for anythihng than a pet, we don't sell. Our dogs have been raised in the house, with our childrenand g/children. The one's that turn out bad, are BECAUSE OF THE OWNERS and THE OWNERS SHOULD BE "PUT DOWN".
But once they have that taste, they're awfully hard to rehabilitate. And its a sad situation, to see an very good dog gone bad. But it's good folks gone bad [show less]

I've never owned one but I've known several. They were no more or less prone to viciousness than other dogs I've known. Some owners, on the other hand, ARE a menace to society. A kitten can be taught to do damage if it has been raised by a loser who thinks owning a dangerous pet just for the hell of it will make them look like a bad-ass. [show less]
