Who were your imaginary friends growing up?

Last week my daughter was playing with a little girl who kept talking to her imaginary friend instead of to my daughter. Her mom had to keep reminding her that she had a real friend to play with (they live out in the boonies, so she is alone a lot). It was pretty funny.

I had them growing up. Some even had background stories to boot. How about you?

Star

Star can do magic and no one would ever call her a "dork" because she was charming and beautiful. I took her to school one day with me but after that she got sick and couldn't come to school anymore because I thought that maybe she was allergic to meanies, and my school was full of them.

My nonexisting twin sister

i am still not sure if i was a twin or not... first i thought it's not possible as there are no twins in our family at all. then my nan told me that my mum had an abortion after she had me, because she didn't fancy having twins... euh!? and I have seen pics of her pregnant. a whale is nothing in comparism, but my mum doesn't like to talk about her pregnancy or child birth. she doesn't even remember what time i am born... strange...

My granddaughter has Eiyko who has currently gone away.

But I am 52 and have a rich and varied storyline that started when I was a child and continues to this day - as I change and grow, so do the characters. I tell her this and encourage her to daydream and make up characters.

Travis

Strange Story: Travis was my REAL best friend in kindergarten and then he moved away by the start of first grade. Imaginary Travis stayed with me until I was halfway through the second grade.

Jeanie

She lived in a trailer at the bottom of the hill and would come over to play when my brother wouldn't play with me.

Stephanie

Unlike most imaginary friends, Stephanie only came over when I wasn't home. She wore a wig and sunglasses with a long nightgown and would knock on the door, ostensibly, to play. When my mom told her I wasn't home she'd ask for milk and cookies while she waited. After her snack she'd say, "Well let her know I came to play." Hey, I was 3 at the time, what can I say?
