The Daily Show

#11
From Wikipedia: "The Daily Show (currently The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, also known as TDS) is a half-hour satirical news program produced by and run on the Comedy Central cable television network in the United States. The show premiered on Monday, July 22, 1996, and was hosted by Craig Kilborn, who acted as news anchor. In 1999, Kilborn left the show and was replaced by Jon Stewart. Providing news-related comedy in the tradition of Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" segment, Michael Moore's TV Nation, HBO's Not Necessarily the News, and the long-running Canadian series This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Daily Show reports on the foibles and hypocrisy of the real world with a satirical edge. The show has also developed a reputation as one of the sharpest political commentary shows on American TV."

I'm crushed--I thought Antiques Roadshow would be number one by now. Have you people no decency?

Couldn't agree more. I can't watch commercial television without clutching the sides of my head. As far as I'm concerned, "reality T.V." is an oxymoron. There's some decent stuff on cable, though.

Did you know that it is a basic human survival instinct to notice things that are in motion? Television is in constant motion. If there is one in the room/restaurant/bar/waiting room. It is instinctively, humanly impossible to NOT look at it.

What to do with such a powerful tool?

Are you arguing that a person cannot make a conscious decision to not look at the television? So if a person places a wager for fifty bucks that they do not look at the television are your arguing that they cannot win that bet?

Are you advocating a naturalistic determinism?

Friar,

I don't know what naturalistic determinism means yet, but under normal circumstances "natural" as you say. The person would NOT be able to keep themselves from looking at a moving object.

That is why flashing advertisements on the internet CAN be annoying, if that is not what you are trying to focus on.

Through a two way mirror I'd bet the person could NOT keep from looking at the television.

I'm not talking about the average guy in a relaxed scenario. I'm talking about making a conscious decision not to look at the television.

Making a conscious decision to NOT look at the television is your best bet. If you want to always keep in mind that another human is supplying this content TO make you look at it. But even THAT person will HAVE to look at the television due to their basic survival instinct of noticing motion amongst a fixed background.

(Philosophically: If you vow to not look at the television, and there is a t.v. in the room? You will "become" the t.v. since you'll have to keep it in your consciousness to NOT look at the t.v. at all times. Like the pink elephant that no one sees. Like a self conscious person with a pimple entering a party... I am a pimple, they are looking at my pimple, I have a pimple. "Hi! Nice to meet you! My name is Jake!" Is he looking at my pimple? I think he notices my pimple.)

Anybody know where the World of Warcraft European servers are located? Someone said they are all in Britain but I am not sure. Would they have some in Germany, some in Finland etc?

I am trying to do a business plan for my own massive multiplayer game and was wonder how they spread out the resources.
