Except that:
A person can build their own unique belief system and a lot of the ones listed here do not require you to belong to any formal group (like Buddhism). So a person can be heavily influenced by a specific religion, but not be an official part of the religion for whatever reason. But if a person's private system has been so heavily influenced by a formal system then they might still identify with it, or come back to it once in a while.
We know that certain new beliefs, like the the Church of the SubGenius and the Flying Spaghetti Monster, are silly. They're meant to be (mainly to point out the silliness of mainstream religions).
However, some of their underlying beliefs can be good tenets to follow.
Example: Some people have Ten Commandments. The pastafarians have Eight "I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts".
Number 1: I'd Really Rather You Didn't Act Like A Sanctimonious, Holier-Than-Thou Ass When Describing My Noodly Goodness. If Some People Don't Believe In Me, That's Okay. Really, I'm Not That Vain. Besides, This Isn't About Them So Stop Changing The Subject."
How does one go about converting to Pastafaria?
