Big Brother

Governments use the "threat of terrorism" to justify increased spend on surveillance technology and intelligence databases.

Cameras become a part of life in cities, on roads and beyond, while massive databases amalgamate all the information the government holds about each individual. Combined with new laws reducing true freedoms and individual rights, by 2035 technology has bought today's democratic societies to the edge of being police states.

Money

As we crawl slowly up maslow's heirarchy of needs, moving beyond the essentials like food, safety and protection we develop the ability (and freedom) to play. We can spend our time and money on the things that give us pleasure - not just the things that we need to survive. Isn't this "play" what life is really about? Given the global surge in development, the millions of people moving out of poverty and up the same heirarchy of needs there should hopefully be more play for all ... though economics sugggests that this will not be the case. Rather the wealth of one nation may well come at the cost to another. The way to ensure your survival is to be ahead of the curve.
