Okay, so Keanu sucks, but every science fiction movie made since has tried to bite off The Matrix. No other movie on this list is as influential or deep.

Influential? I've seen movies aping the "bullet-time" stuff (sometimes deliberately spoofing it), but what influence do you think it's had?

Just as StarWars set a standard, The Matrix set another standard. The messages behind the action packed movie are as deep as you want to go too! Some say it has the Gospel of Jesus woven in perfectly. Great movie. One of the few tha tI have seen more than once.

Watch Ghost in the Shell

you will be amazed at how many of its "revolutionary ideas" were taken from that anime.

I give the Wachowski brothers credit for bullet-time but that's it. (and even that's a bit dubious)

Well, it borrows from a lot of stuff. Anime, new wave SF/cyberpunk literature, Hong Kong action flicks, etc.

I have no problem with that borrowing/homage, but I didn't see anything new (besides technical FX work) in The Matrix.

I just view it as a rather pompous, hipsterish variation of Campbell's monomyth with a few rather stagy action scenes that are barely redeemed by the impressive FX work.

Again, there were a few spoofs of the bullet time thing in the few years afterwards, along with a few "reality questioning" genre flicks, but The Matrix really hasn't had that big of an influence on film. I'd be surprised if people are still talking about it ten years from now. Or less.

The hole Matrix Collection can only be voted as one, because it is one big story. it really works only complete. And if you see the complete thing and you really think about it a long long time as i did, you will see the most story telling, religious, and powerfull thought story of all time combined with extraordinary special effects and ideas no man had thought before! Simply Great!

The first Matrix movie was really cool when it was released. But something got seriouly wrong later, with Revelation, and worse, Revolutions (hrhrrhrhrhrh... horrible movie)

the first one was great, i wouldn't say it is the best movie...but it was good, one of my favourites...
reloaded and revolutions were a good one-time watch, and they're pretty much a seperate movie. personally i think they shoulda stopped at number 1
