It is very unlikely that the US will have universal health care. The federal government has too much dept and raising taxes is unpopular or the equivalent of making mandatory insurance for everybody.
If the government where to try to make laws like those of other nations, the insurance company and HMO lobbyists will bribe enough politicians to protect their industries.
The only reason all the politicians talk about it is to get elected.

Or maybe they dicuss it because they actually believe that the corruption of the current system can be overcome. Universal healthcare is obviously not going to be easy to achieve, but I'm glad that there are politicians who are willing to try and do things that are not just a piece of cake handed to them by a lobbyist.
