Being gay is definitely different from being straight - the two sexualities can be separated into two camps. Heterosexual homophobia has just about begun to cope with that concept. However, the idea that one's partner in a heterosexaul relationship might actually rather enjoy batting for the other team as well, is threatening. Heterosexuals can't cope with that at all. It is like the enemy within.
Also, imagine you are a big butch hetero male in the locker room naked with "the lads" and you know that one of those lads has a wife at home but he would rather like to fiddle with your bits under the shower. Again, it is the enemy within.
You may think I am being cynical - but I think it explains the distrust/dislike of bisexuality very well. You can point at a self-confessed fag and avoid standing next to him to have a pee but the bisexaul is hidden, covert and horribly, worryingly threatening and he may be ogling your exposed dick and longing to suck it.
I really feel this is true. As a gay man, I have seen it in operation. Bisexaul friends have told me the same. I never know whether to think of it as an annoying problem or just plain funny.
