They ought to have a hard life in Jail or Prison, whichever foot the shoe fits. Like hard work, no pay, but a very uncomfortable, cheap cot at night and a stew at Lunch and a LOT of work, I mean hard, hard work.

I don't have any hard facts, but I am pretty sure it costs more to sentence someone to death, with all the appeals and such, than it costs to house them for the rest of their life. So in the end, a life sentence is cheaper than the death penalty. Or so I have read somewhere.

I guess it depends on how long the inmate lives and how long he's in jail, getting life at 18 may be more expensive, I have heard both more expensive/ less expensive

You're right, kibber.

"The most comprehensive death penalty study in the country found that the death penalty cost North Carolina $2.16 million more per execution over the costs of sentencing murderers to life imprisonment. The majority of these costs occur at the trial level.[2] In its review of death penalty expenses, the State of Kansas concluded that capital cases are 70% more expensive than comparable non-death penalty cases, including the costs of incarceration.[3]"

The death penalty is in no way a deterrent. in fact, if you gave me the option of being quietly put to sleep or sent to spend the rest of my life in a 4x4 cell with the chance of being raped or shanked daily, I would gladly choose death. Death is not rehabilitation, it's barely a punishment, it's just vengeance, and blood lust.
