I have never understood their popularity, nor appreciated their music. (Which is not to say that I don't know most of the words to their 1 or 2 most popular songs, though most unwillingly.)

Yeah they were crap but I don't know a single person over the age of 12 that thought they were any good anyway. They sold music for kids which was bought by kids, and obviously kids know shit about anything.
Sounds like your demographic missed out on a truly appalling fad. I was about 10 when the Spice Girls were popular, so basically everyone I knew was collecting gum stickers and arguing over who got to be Baby Spice. Their recent reunion tour has been a nightmarish sort of deja vu, except worse, because the fangirls are now 20.
Lol, poor you. Mind I had to put up with all that **** electro pop stuff in the 80s were they all looked like freaks. At least the Spice Girls were pleasing to the eye. Well Sporty and Baby maybe, the other three were a bit rough.
I am fervently thankful that I missed the techno age. I'm all for the Postal Service and Stars, mind, but there is such a thing as too much.
