The following arguement is strictly from a biological standpoint. My personal opinion is that if women want to be soldiers, more power to them.
The reason it's bad for women to be soldiers is because men are more expendable. Women can have lots children if there are only a couple men. Men can't have lots of children if there are only a couple women.
In classical history, there were often truces that lasted 20-30 years, to allow for a city to reestablish its male population (with the help *cough* of the conquering city, of course).
The Thirty-Year Truce between Athens and Sparta (after the Persian War) is an example. So many men had been killed, they couldn't afford to have their fighting men go off to battle. If they did, their societies would collapse. Someone has to plow the fields, make the bread, and all of that. About 14 years after the Truce was formed, Athens broke it, just long enough for a generation of children to grow up...
This arguement doesn't hold up quite as well anymore, since the number of people on the planet is so much higher and the survival rate of infants is much better.
Being a soldier is about killing people, at the end. Are you really curious about that?
